1700s Hand loom weaving in cottages on Nelson Street, Tayport
1864 Mr Scott & Mr Fyfe founded a linen works in Tayport in 1864
1887 William Hurrie Tough in 1887 joined S&F
1907 William Hurrie Tough apponted Managing Director, business converted to 100% Jute manufacture
1910 Steam engine installed using 50T of coal/month to run 180 looms.
1938 James Tough becomes managing director and chairman
1956 11th May The Great Fire, followed by rebuild (1956/57)
1954 Hamish Tough joined the business
1966 Polypropylene shuttleless weaving was implemented in Scott & Fyfe
1968 Stitchbonding process introduced into Scott & Fyfe
1968 Textron developed, patented and introduced to replace Jute in carpet underlay
1969 Widening of activities to cover more areas of industrial fabric manufacture
1969 Policy decision to expand activities through the innovation of products and processes
1973 Hamish Tough appointed as Managing Director
1973 Purchase of Tayport Works to expand production, development and testing facilities
1979 Polypropylene tape extrusion facilities introduced
1984 Start of major exports of Textron to Australia and New Zeland
1992 No.1 supplier of FIBC fabrics in Europe with circular and flat weaving
1996 Expanded into glass fabric manufacture by acquiring Flemings Textiles in Kilmarnock
2003 Opened manufacturing facility in China to produce primarily FIBC fabrics
2005 Opened manufacturing in Mexico to produce primarily FIBS fabrics
2009 Fleming's Textiles moved to Tayport as Scott & Fyfe Composites
2011 Closure of Mexico and China plants
2012 Consolidate operations onto one site, Tayport Works, Tayport.
2012 Expand horizons in Russia, France, Scandinavia, the Baltic States etc
2012 New company POD structure introduced to target markets worldwide
